At that time, a container truck with Ho Chi Minh City license plates, driven by Nguyễn Sỹ Trưởng (33 years old), was traveling in the direction of Gia Nghĩa to Buôn Ma Thuột.
When reaching km1818+100, Mr. Trưởng’s truck was unexpectedly hit hard from behind by another container truck driven by Hoàng Văn Nghĩa (36 years old), traveling in the same direction. The strong impact caused Mr. Nghĩa’s truck to lose control completely, veering straight into 6 residential houses located next to the road.

Initial assessments from authorities suggest that the cause may have stemmed from the container truck driven by Mr. Nghĩa not maintaining a safe following distance, leading to a rear-end collision with Mr. Trưởng’s truck and causing a chain reaction accident.
