Late at night, a serious traffic accident occurred in Can Tho when a container truck lost control, crashed through the Hung Loi overpass, and fell onto the road below from an estimated height of nearly 20 meters. The incident not only severely damaged the truck but also destroyed a section of the bridge railing and a lamppost, fortunately causing no injuries to passersby.
The truck accident occurred at a time when there were few people around. The container truck, with license plate 51C-088.03 driven by Mr. Do Van Luong, was traveling on National Highway 91B towards Can Tho Bridge. Upon reaching the Hung Loi overpass, the vehicle suddenly lost control, crashed into the bridge railing, and plunged onto the road.
The scene of the accident showed the severity of the event. A nearly 20-meter section of the bridge railing was knocked away, and the lamppost was broken. The container truck lay overturned at the foot of the bridge, with the front end heavily damaged, and debris scattered everywhere. The location where the truck fell was very close to residential houses, shocking many people.
According to information from local residents, the truck’s co-driver, who was sleeping in the cabin, suffered a broken shoulder blade and was taken to the hospital. Fortunately, a 14-year-old boy who was stopping to buy water nearby managed to escape in time. The accident happened at night, in the rain, and on a deserted road, which helped avoid tragic consequences. If the incident had occurred during the day, when traffic density is high, the consequences could have been much more dire.
Authorities quickly arrived to investigate the cause of the truck accident. Initially, the suspicion is that the driver fell asleep, leading to loss of control. The incident is still being investigated to determine the exact cause and responsibility of the parties involved.
On the same day, August 29th, another accident involving a container truck also occurred in Ho Chi Minh City, on Hanoi Highway, passing through Phuoc Long A Ward, District 9.
The tractor-trailer with license plate 50LD – 000.51, pulling the semi-trailer 51R – 000.48, driven by Mr. Tri Quang Chung, while descending Rach Chiec Bridge, collided with another container truck. The driver lost control, plowed through the median strip, hit three motorcycles that were stopped, and crashed into a congee stall on the side of the road.
The chain-reaction accident on Hanoi Highway destroyed nearly ten meters of the median strip, and three motorcycles were severely damaged. Fortunately, six people who were eating congee managed to escape.
Also on the morning of August 29th, another tractor-trailer crashed into the median strip on Bach Dang Street, Binh Thanh District, causing traffic congestion. Fortunately, this incident did not cause any casualties.
The series of accidents involving container trucks on August 29th is a warning about traffic safety, especially for large transport vehicles. Drivers need to raise their sense of responsibility, strictly comply with traffic laws, ensure health and alertness when driving, especially on complex roads and at night. At the same time, authorities need to strengthen inspection and supervision of truck operations, take strict measures to handle violations, in order to minimize the risk of accidents and ensure safety for road users.
