Highway 14 Truck-Container Crash Kills 3

A devastating traffic accident occurred at approximately 8:00 AM today on National Highway 14, passing through hamlet 11, Dak R’La commune, Dak Mil district, Dak Nong province, claiming the lives of three individuals and causing significant property damage. A tractor-trailer truck with Ho Chi Minh City license plates, driven by Hoang Van Nghia (36 years old, native of Nghe An), suddenly lost control and crashed into houses along the roadside, resulting in a horrific scene.

The tragic accident resulted in the immediate deaths of two sons of Mr. Hoang Minh Tuan: Hoang Minh Quang (18 years old) and Hoang Minh Dung (15 years old), who were having breakfast inside their home. The third victim, Mr. Nguyen Ba Chien (57 years old), who was buying bread nearby, sustained severe injuries and died en route to the hospital.

The powerful impact completely collapsed a section of Mr. Tuan’s house, with furniture shattered and scattered everywhere. Continuing its path of destruction, the container truck proceeded to demolish seven kiosks belonging to 5 other households along a nearly 50-meter stretch of the road, causing extensive damage to gates, signs, corrugated iron roofs, and numerous other properties.

Ms. Nguyen Thu Thao, a fortunate survivor who witnessed the accident, recounted that she was selling bread in front of her house when she heard a loud noise. In panic, she rushed inside and only just witnessed the container truck plow directly into her bakery and house, destroying everything. “The event unfolded too quickly; if I had been slower, I might have been hit by the truck,” Ms. Thao said in shock.

Mr. Le Van Hoang, Chairman of the Dak Mil District People’s Committee, stated that initial investigation results indicate the tractor-trailer collided with another car at a slope near the market before losing control and crashing into the houses. The container truck driver was tested and found to have no alcohol or drugs in his system. In addition to the 3 fatalities, one other person sustained minor injuries and has been discharged from the hospital.

National Highway 14, a vital artery connecting the Central Highlands provinces with the North Central Coast and Southeast regions, is known for its high traffic density and potential for numerous accidents. The section of road passing through the Dak R’la commune market, where this tragic accident occurred, has long been considered a traffic “black spot.” In 2020, another serious traffic accident occurred in the same area, resulting in 6 deaths, highlighting the dangerous nature of this road segment.

This truck-container crash causing 3 deaths once again serves as a stark warning about the unsafe traffic situation on National Highway 14, especially in densely populated areas and traffic “black spots.” Relevant authorities need to implement more drastic and comprehensive solutions to ensure the safety of people traveling and living along this route.
