Truck Overload Control: Ensuring Road Safety on Highway 9

Trucks carrying goods, especially on National Highway 9, a vital route connecting western and central Quang Tri province, are under strict weight control. High daily traffic volume, coupled with weight violations by container trucks and vehicles transporting wood or construction materials, have prompted Quang Tri traffic police to intensify patrols, inspections, and strict handling of violations.

The Dakrong Traffic Police Station, located at Km 32 on National Highway 9, is a hotspot for weight control. According to Lieutenant Colonel Mai Van Sang, all vehicles suspected of violations are thoroughly inspected: measuring the size of the truck bed, cargo height, and weighing the load. Even minor violations are subject to fines. The biggest challenge is that many drivers deliberately evade checks, recklessly driving on local roads or stopping to wait for authorities to leave. Some even delay, refuse to cooperate, or try to interfere. However, traffic police are determined to handle all violations.

Strict Penalties for Overloaded Trucks

A prime example is the case of truck 74C-123.42, transporting animal feed from Huong Hoa district to Dong Ha City. Upon inspection, driver Le Dinh Tam admitted to carrying 1.4 tons of excess weight. Mr. Tam and the vehicle owner were fined 3.9 million VND. Mr. Tam shared that he violated regulations due to transport cost pressures, but after being fined and educated about the dangers of overloading, he understood and pledged not to repeat the offense.

Lieutenant Colonel Le Ngoc Anh, Head of the Dakrong Traffic Police Station, stated that despite equipment limitations, the unit has developed a continuous patrol and inspection plan. The station has also contracted with businesses that have standard weighing stations along National Highway 9 to assist in inspections. Furthermore, efforts are focused on communicating weight regulations to drivers.

Increased Awareness Among Road Users

Anh Pham Van Phap, a container driver transporting coal from the La Lay International Border Gate to Thua Thien Hue province, shared that after being inspected and educated by traffic police, he is now more aware of the dangers of overloading and strictly adheres to regulations. Although transport costs may decrease, he prioritizes safety and complies with the law.

Conclusion

The control of truck weight, including trucks carrying goods, on National Highway 9 is being implemented decisively, contributing to increased awareness among road users, reduced accidents, and protection of transport infrastructure. These positive results demonstrate the efforts of traffic police in ensuring road safety in the area.
