Ambulance Crash: Multi-Vehicle Accident in District 5, HCMC

A multi-vehicle accident involving an ambulance and three other cars occurred on the afternoon of September 19th at the intersection of Vo Van Kiet and Nguyen Tri Phuong streets, District 5, Ho Chi Minh City, causing severe traffic congestion. Fortunately, there were no casualties.

Ambulance Carrying Patient Home Involved in Accident

At approximately 2:35 PM, an ambulance with license plates from Dong Thap was traveling on Vo Van Kiet Street from District 1 towards Binh Tan. Upon reaching the intersection at the foot of the Nguyen Tri Phuong overpass, the ambulance collided with a car making a left turn from Vo Van Kiet Street onto Nguyen Tri Phuong Street.

Chain Reaction Collision Causes Damage to Multiple Vehicles

Following the initial collision, the ambulance lost control and veered into the opposite lane, colliding with two other cars. The vehicle continued, crashing into a traffic sign and a tree before coming to a stop. The chain-reaction accident caused significant damage to multiple vehicles, resulting in extensive traffic congestion.

No Casualties Reported

At the time of the accident, there were five people in the ambulance, including a patient and their family members, who were en route from the Hospital for Tropical Diseases to Dong Thap. Fortunately, no one was injured. The patient was subsequently transferred to another vehicle to continue their journey.

Preliminary Cause Identified

Dashcam footage from a car shows that the car collided with the ambulance while making a left turn as the traffic light turned green. The driver of the car with the dashcam stated that the ambulance was sounding its siren as it crossed the intersection. Authorities are continuing to investigate the cause of the accident. This incident serves as another reminder of the importance of complying with traffic laws, especially yielding to priority vehicles such as ambulances.
