Overloaded Sand Trucks: Alarming Situation & Solutions

The issue of overloaded sand trucks exceeding permissible limits is becoming a serious problem on many roads, causing significant consequences for traffic safety and infrastructure. Recently, a typical case was recorded when authorities discovered and dealt with two tractor-trailers carrying sand exceeding the load limit by more than 400%, shocking public opinion and raising questions about the responsibility of transport units.

The “Terrifying” Journey of Overloaded Sand Trucks

According to local residents, overloaded tractor-trailers are rampant on routes QL25, QL29, and the Truong Son Dong Road, especially on the journey from Gia Lai through Phu Yen to Dak Lak. These vehicles operate day and night, posing a risk of traffic accidents and causing public outrage.

An incident occurred in the early morning of October 6 when a tractor-trailer carrying sand overturned on Truong Son Dong Road, passing through M’Drắk district, Dak Lak. The incident caused sand to spill onto the road, causing severe traffic congestion for hours, affecting people’s lives and travel.

A reporter from the Journal of Transport followed a tractor-trailer with license plate 78G-000.90 carrying sand showing signs of being overloaded on Truong Son Dong Road towards M’Drắk district. Direct observation showed that the vehicle moved slowly, especially when going uphill, the engine roared loudly. The vehicle then traveled more than 20km to QL26, turned towards Ea Kar district and continued another 5km to the Thinh Ngan concrete mixing station at the M’Drắk Industrial Cluster.

At the concrete mixing station, the driver opened the tarpaulin and side panels of the vehicle, revealing a truck full of sand. A large amount of sand was poured onto the gathering yard. After completing the sand pouring, the vehicle continued its journey back to the sand collection point.

The sand collection point of the vehicle was identified at the gathering yard of DT Mineral Co., Ltd. (DT Company) in Chu Gu commune, Krong Pa district, Gia Lai, about 80km from the concrete mixing station. This gathering yard is located behind the company headquarters, with a tightly fenced entrance. Sand transportation activities here are bustling with tractor-trailers and small dump trucks constantly entering and leaving to collect and dump sand.

From the sand gathering yard, the tractor-trailer with license plate 19H-032.99 carrying sand moved to QL25, through Krong Pa town, Truong Son Dong Road, QL29 (Phu Yen) to Dak Lak. This inter-provincial sand transportation journey is long and potentially risky due to overloading.

“Eye-Opening” Overload of More Than 400%

The Traffic Police Force of Dak Lak Province deployed a task force to intercept two overloaded tractor-trailers on QL19C. In the early morning of October 11, two tractor-trailers with license plates 19H-032.99 and 78G-000.90 were discovered and stopped for inspection.

Upon inspection, the two vehicles were driven by drivers Chu Kim L. and Huynh Tan K. Registration information showed that the trailer bodies of the two vehicles had a self-weight of 10.64 tons and a design load allowed to participate in traffic of 27 tons (total weight of 37.6 tons).

The results of the weight check shocked many people. The tractor-trailer with license plate 19H-032.99 was overloaded by 444.33% with a total weight of 168.44 tons. The tractor-trailer with license plate 78G-000.90 was also overloaded by 432.36% with a total weight of 167.73 tons. The degree of violation of the load limit exceeded the permissible threshold in a serious way.

Xe Tai My Dinh: Solutions and Recommendations for Overloaded Sand Trucks

From the above case, it can be seen that the situation of overloaded sand trucks is becoming complicated and requires drastic solutions. Xe Tai My Dinh, as an expert in the field of trucks, would like to offer some analysis and recommendations:

  • Dangers from overloaded vehicles: Overloaded vehicles not only cause damage to roads and bridges, but also pose a risk of traffic accidents due to the braking and steering systems being affected, causing the vehicle to lose control. In particular, with large overloaded tractor-trailers, this risk is even greater.
  • Choose the right vehicle: Transport units need to choose the type of truck with a load capacity suitable for sand transportation needs. Using too small a vehicle or intentionally overloading to optimize costs is a violation of the law and dangerous.
  • Compliance with regulations: Strictly comply with regulations on load, size of goods when transporting. Regularly inspect and maintain vehicles to ensure technical safety.
  • Raise awareness: Drivers and vehicle owners need to raise awareness of compliance with the law, putting traffic safety first. Do not disregard regulations for profit, causing danger to yourself and the community.
