The Vietnamese pickup truck market in 2019 witnessed fierce competition among prominent names like Ford Ranger, Chevrolet Colorado, Nissan Navara, and Mazda BT-50. Amidst this landscape, the arrival of the Mitsubishi Triton 2019 pickup truck brought a fresh breeze, reaffirming Mitsubishi’s position in this high-potential segment. Mitsubishi, a long-standing Japanese automotive brand, has been present in Vietnam since the 1990s and quickly gained consumer favor. Alongside familiar passenger car lines, Mitsubishi’s pickup truck segment has also garnered increasing attention, especially with the launch of the Mitsubishi Triton 2019, a comprehensively revamped version.
Spanning four generations and present in over 140 countries, the Mitsubishi Triton has proven its global appeal with over 2.8 million units sold. The Triton 2019 version continues its market conquest, starting from Thailand and subsequently Vietnam. However, in Vietnam, Mitsubishi introduced the Triton 2019 pickup truck with two main versions, instead of five versions like previous generations. The Japanese automaker indicated that the remaining versions might be introduced later in the year, along with detailed pricing information. Currently, the two new Mitsubishi Triton 2019 versions are still sold alongside the older versions, offering more choices for customers.
With the 2019 version, the Triton pickup truck is expected to bring significant improvements in exterior and interior design, engine, and transmission, promising a superior and more powerful driving experience.

3. Mitsubishi Triton 2019 Interior and Exterior Review
Overall design-wise, the Mitsubishi Triton embodies the brand’s characteristic Dynamic Shield language, creating a strong X-shape at the front. With overall dimensions of 5,300 x 1,815 x 1,795 mm, the Triton 2019 impresses with its imposing, muscular appearance and safety protection capabilities. Thanks to this distinctive design, the Mitsubishi pickup truck is easily recognizable on the streets.
3.1. Mitsubishi Triton 2019 Exterior: Impressively Powerful
* Front Design:
Grille: The chrome-plated grille is impressive with a special titanium color tone, inspired by the Pajero Sport SUV model. This design, combined with symmetrical V-shaped bars embracing the Mitsubishi logo and Bi-LED headlights, creates a robust and powerful look for the Mitsubishi Triton 2019.

Hood: The Triton 2019 features a hood raised by more than 100mm compared to the previous generation, creating a more imposing and muscular look for the front of the car.
Lighting System: The Mitsubishi Triton 2019 is equipped with a modern lighting system with LED daytime running lights, Bi-LED headlights with automatic on/off function. The LED fog lights are designed to be slightly protruding, with silver trim creating a solid accent. The silver-painted front bumper trim is raised and wraps around the front, improving the approach angle.
* Side Design:
The new generation Mitsubishi Triton retains the prominent body lines running horizontally along the sides and the characteristic J-Line style in the rear cabin area. A notable difference is the widened and more squared-off wheel arches, delivering a strong and masculine visual effect.
Power-adjustable/folding rearview mirrors (on the two MIVEC versions) with integrated LED turn signals, are large and feature shiny chrome trim. Chrome-plated door handles integrate a smart touch lock/unlock system, adding convenience and modernity.
To optimize the off-road capability of the Triton 2019, Mitsubishi has upgraded the wheel and tire sizes. Specifically, the 245/65 R17 tires and wheels have been replaced with 265/60 R18, increasing road grip and off-road capability.
* Rear Design:
Overall from the rear, the rear design of the Mitsubishi Triton 2019 does not have many changes compared to the previous version. It still features the familiar 3-tier taillights hugging the sides of the car, LED auxiliary brake lights integrated on the tailgate, chrome-plated handle, and tailgate embossed with the Triton logo.
However, Mitsubishi has refined some details to make the rear of the car more square, solid, and personalized. The LED taillights are designed to be more compact, no longer extending to the sides of the car. The “Dynamic Shield” LED taillight strip carries the design direction of the Pajero Sport. The rear door handle is also trimmed with a larger chrome trim panel, creating a luxurious accent.
The Triton 2019 cargo bed is quite spacious, with dimensions of length x width x height reaching 1,520 x 1,470 x 475 mm. This is a notable advantage of Mitsubishi, as the Triton’s cargo bed is slightly larger than the Ford Ranger and Nissan Navara, helping the car carry cargo up to 1 ton.
3.2. Mitsubishi Triton 2019 Interior: Spacious Thanks to J-Line Design
* Steering Wheel and Instrument Cluster
The steering wheel is a familiar detail on Mitsubishi models. The Triton 2019 steering wheel inherits the design from the Pajero Sport, leather-wrapped and integrated with audio controls, hands-free calling, cruise control, and paddle shifters (on the MIVEC version). The steering wheel design follows the Dynamic Shield language, with an aluminum-plated shield shape, creating a fresh and solid feel.
On the two MIVEC versions, the Triton 2019 pickup truck is equipped with paddle shifters behind the steering wheel, helping the driver operate gear changes faster and more conveniently, especially when moving on difficult terrain.
Behind the steering wheel is an analog instrument cluster combined with a multi-information display screen in the middle, a tachometer on the left, and a speedometer on the right. The instrument cluster display on the Mitsubishi Triton 2019 has not changed much compared to the previous version, but the LCD screen is upgraded with a larger size and color display.
* Seat Design
In this improved version, all two rows of seats are leather-wrapped with ventilation holes, providing comfort and coolness for occupants. The front row has an 8-way power-adjustable driver’s seat and a 4-way manually adjustable passenger seat.
The rear seats of the Mitsubishi Triton 2019 have a backrest recline angle of up to 25 degrees, more impressive than the previous version. Combined with a high roof, the rear seats offer comfortable seating space for passengers, especially on long journeys.
This design clearly demonstrates Mitsubishi Motors’ practical philosophy, focusing on the needs of transportation and passenger carrying, alongside cargo carrying and off-road capabilities.
* Center Console
The center console of the Mitsubishi Triton 2019 is designed to be neat and easy to use. The main material is high-quality leather-grained hard plastic. The air conditioning vents are redesigned with silver trim lines running vertically downwards, creating a more unified and modern block.
The 7-inch touch infotainment screen is rated as adequate, with a simple, easy-to-operate interface. Below is a 2-zone automatic air conditioning system, however, there are still quite a few physical buttons.
4. Mitsubishi Triton 2019 Amenities
Convenience features on the Mitsubishi Triton 2019 are not outstanding but still meet the basic usage needs of a pickup truck:
- Entertainment system with a sharp 7-inch IPS touch screen, integrated CD player, AUX, USB, and radio ports, accompanied by a 6-speaker sound system (on the two MIVEC versions) for decent sound quality.
- Push-button start.
- 2-zone automatic air conditioning.
- 12V power outlet.
- Automatic headlights and wipers.
- Anti-pinch windows, auto-dimming rearview mirror.
- Provides 2 USB charging ports for rear passengers.

A regrettable drawback is that the Triton 2019 pickup truck still lacks Bluetooth connectivity, causing inconvenience when connecting to phones. In addition, the car does not have air conditioning vents for the rear seats, and the ceiling-mounted ventilation fan system has also been omitted when it arrived in Vietnam.
5. Mitsubishi Triton 2019 Safety
Safety equipment on the Triton 2019 in the Vietnamese market includes:
- Anti-lock Braking System ABS
- Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control ASTC
- Emergency Brake Assist BA
- Hill Start Assist HAC
- 2 airbags

6. Mitsubishi Triton 2019 Performance
Regarding engines, Mitsubishi offers 3 engine options for the Triton 2019: 2.5L Turbo Diesel (134 hp, 324 Nm), 2.5L VGT Turbo Diesel (175.5 hp, 400Nm), and 2.4L MIVEC Diesel (178.5 hp, 430 Nm). All use Diesel fuel, optimizing towing power and fuel efficiency.

The engine on the Mitsubishi Triton 2019 pickup truck is made of aluminum alloy, making the car about 30kg lighter than the old version and enhancing performance.
