Toyota Land Cruiser Pickup ROX: A Bold Concept

Toyota unveiled the Land Cruiser ROX pickup concept at the SEMA 2024 show, garnering significant attention from automotive enthusiasts. This Land Cruiser pickup was designed by Toyota’s Calty Design Research studio, embodying a strong and distinctive off-road style.

Land Cruiser ROX: A New Vision for Off-Road

The Land Cruiser pickup ROX Concept represents a fresh perspective on Toyota’s off-road vehicles. Its open design, eliminating the D-pillar and hardtop roof in favor of a custom frame and soft-top convertible, creates an airy, nature-integrated feel. The redesigned doors, now half-doors without glass, along with widened wheel arches and large off-road tires, further accentuate the vehicle’s rugged appearance.

Specialized Equipment and Accessories

The Land Cruiser pickup ROX is equipped with a range of specialized off-road accessories. Robust steel front and rear bumpers, skid plates, and a front bumper guard enhance protection when navigating challenging terrain. The tailgate features a spare tire carrier, with a split-opening design for easy access to the cargo area. According to Toyota, over half of the vehicle’s components have been replaced with new parts.

4Runner TRD Surf Concept: Inspired by the Past

Alongside the Land Cruiser pickup ROX, Toyota also introduced the 4Runner TRD Surf Concept, a two-door convertible SUV inspired by the original 4Runner and Hilux Surf from the 1980s. Designed with a coastal recreational style, it features a removed roof and D-pillar, replaced by a removable top. A custom roof rack for surfboards and a roll bar protect rear passengers.

The front seats can be folded forward for easy access to the rear seats. The 4Runner TRD Surf Concept is equipped with wide fender flares, a TRD front bumper, a hood with vents, Turbo decals on the doors, and ocean-inspired graphics. The interior features blue upholstery, green accents, and waterproof flooring. It retains the stock 2.4-liter turbocharged engine, 8-speed automatic transmission, and all-time 4-wheel drive system.

SEMA Show and the Future of the Land Cruiser Pickup

The appearance of the Land Cruiser pickup ROX at the SEMA 2024 show indicates Toyota’s serious consideration of producing a commercial version of this model. However, the final decision hinges on public reaction. SEMA, an annual event held in the first week of November in Las Vegas, is a hub for renowned tuning companies and major automakers worldwide, attracting over 140,000 visitors.
