A serious waterway traffic accident involving a truck and a passenger ferry has occurred in An Giang, causing public concern. This truck-ferry collision not only caused property damage but also injured several people, raising an alarm about waterway traffic safety, especially at ferry terminals.
Details of the Truck-Ferry Collision
At approximately 3:40 PM on August 6th, a shocking collision occurred on the Vam Nao River, in the area of the Tan Trung – My Hoi Dong ferry terminal, between a cargo ship and a passenger ferry. At the time of the truck-ferry collision, the ferry was traveling from Phu Tan district to Cho Moi district.
According to video footage of the scene, the cargo ship was traveling at a relatively high speed and repeatedly sounded warning signals with its horn before colliding directly with the ferry. The strong impact caused the passenger ferry to lean sharply to one side, severely damaging the ferry’s railing. The most serious consequence was that a gas truck and three passengers on the ferry were thrown into the Vam Nao River.
Witnesses to the truck-ferry collision said that the sound from the collision was very loud. Many people on the ferry shouted for the captains of nearby ferries to rescue the victims.
Truck Plunges Into River and Damages
At the time of the truck-ferry collision, there were 2 trucks, 6 motorbikes, 1 tricycle, and approximately 10 passengers on the ferry. After the collision, the ferry continued to move to the dock in My Hoa hamlet, My Hoi Dong commune, Cho Moi district.
Fortunately, the truck-ferry accident did not result in any fatalities. However, a truck with license plate 66C-163.78 fell into the Vam Nao River. The three victims in the truck-ferry collision included the truck driver, who suffered a broken leg (and was taken to the hospital for treatment), and two others who sustained minor injuries. In addition, another truck with license plate 67C-116.35 had a cracked windshield, and a tricycle was severely damaged.
