Multi-Vehicle Pile-Up on Hanoi Ring Road 3 Causes Severe Congestion

Around 2:30 PM this afternoon, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on the elevated Ring Road 3, near Ciputra urban area, heading from the city center towards Noi Bai Airport. The accident, involving 5 vehicles including a truck, caused prolonged traffic congestion, severely impacting traffic flow on this crucial arterial road.

At the scene, the chaotic scene reflected the severity of the collision. Vehicles were blocking the road, occupying two main lanes and one emergency lane. Initial reports indicate that a container truck stopped in the emergency lane collided with the rear of a 29-seater passenger bus, creating a domino effect. The 29-seater bus continued to collide with a 4-seater car, pushing this car into another car-carrying container truck. Finally, the 4-seater car further collided with the rear of a truck parked in the emergency lane.

Fortunately, the collision did not result in any casualties, but it completely paralyzed traffic on the elevated Ring Road 3. By 4:00 PM, the traffic jam had stretched for more than 5 km, reaching as far as the Hoang Quoc Viet intersection. Thousands of vehicles were tailing each other, moving slowly or almost stationary, significantly affecting people’s schedules and freight transport operations.

Immediately after receiving the report, Traffic Police Team No. 6 and Cau Giay District Police quickly mobilized forces to the scene to handle the accident and divert traffic. Traffic police officers guided vehicles to move to the road below to reduce the load on the elevated Ring Road 3.

By 6:00 PM, the traffic congestion had shown signs of easing, however, in the accident area, traffic had not yet returned to normal. Ring Road 3, a vital traffic route of the Capital, with a length of about 65 km, passing through 9 districts, plays an important role in connecting traffic and reducing the load on inner-city roads. This multi-vehicle collision once again highlights the importance of ensuring traffic safety and responding promptly to incidents on key roads.
