In the early hours of May 24th, a severe railway accident occurred in Truong Lam commune, Tinh Gia district, Thanh Hoa province, when a SE passenger train collided head-on with a truck. The horrific impact caused six train carriages to derail, trapping and killing both train drivers in the cabin, and injuring several passengers.

The SE train, traveling North-South, suddenly crashed into a truck with license plate 37C-151.38. The forceful impact overturned the truck, while the train derailed, leading to a chaotic and tragic scene.

According to Thanh Hoa Provincial Police Department of Fire Prevention and Control, the accident resulted in 2 immediate fatalities, the two train drivers of the SE train. Rescue forces promptly arrived at the scene to rescue trapped victims. The rescue operation faced significant challenges due to the severely damaged train head and carriages blocking the railway.

Besides the two deceased train drivers, the accident injured 8 others. The truck driver was seriously injured, in critical condition, and transferred to Viet Duc Hospital (Hanoi) for emergency treatment. Other injured passengers were taken to local hospitals for treatment.
