A horrific accident caused by a truck driver on Phu My Bridge in District 7, Ho Chi Minh City, has shocked the public recently. The incident not only caused serious property damage with 2 container trucks and 6 cars heavily damaged (including 3 cars completely burned down) but also injured 3 people. This event once again raises a warning bell about the issue of truck drivers causing accidents.
Driver Detained for Investigation
After a week of investigation, Thu Duc City Police issued a decision to temporarily detain driver Trinh Tien Dung to investigate the act of “Violating regulations on road traffic participation.” This is a necessary move to clarify the cause and responsibility of the driver in this serious accident.
Preliminary Cause Due to Driver’s Fault
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Transport, driver Dung violated regulations on load when carrying more than 50% of the allowed weight. Notably, at the time of the accident, the technical condition on Phu My Bridge was stable, and the traffic signal system was fully and appropriately arranged according to relevant standards and regulations.
The Department of Transport concluded that the cause of the accident was due to the subjective factor of the truck driver causing the accident, and the technical condition of the vehicle did not ensure safety.

In the afternoon of August 8th, Dung drove a 14.4-ton truck carrying seafood from Kien Giang to Khanh Hoa. At 2:30 PM, the vehicle drove onto Phu My Bridge to reach Nguyen Thi Dinh Street to enter the Ho Chi Minh City – Long Thanh – Dau Giay expressway. When descending the bridge, the truck experienced a “brake failure” leading to a chain collision that damaged 7 cars, deformed them, and burned 3 cars completely. The chaotic scene stretched nearly 100 meters at the accident site.

Courageous Rescue Actions
Some victims trapped in the cars were timely rescued by Mr. Mai Le Duy Quang, Mr. Truong Van Thanh, Mr. Phan Van Tai, Mr. Vu Thanh Tung, and Mr. Lee Geumho (Korean nationality). These 5 people were commended by the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee for their noble actions.
