Đường Nguyễn Văn Trỗi, a vital route in the heart of Duc Thang ward, Phan Thiet, is facing a major change in traffic regulations. Following proposals from the Duc Thang Ward People’s Committee and the Urban Management Department, the Chairman of Phan Thiet City People’s Committee has approved a plan to install truck ban signs on Nguyen Van Troi Street, at the intersection with Ngu Ong Street. This decision stems from residents’ complaints about road degradation caused by heavy trucks regularly traveling, especially after a meeting between voters from Duc Thang and Duc Nghia wards on May 3.
According to the Duc Thang Ward People’s Committee, the ward has a high concentration of transport businesses and the Phan Thiet Fishing Port area, leading to a very high density of heavy trucks. Currently, the Tran Hung Dao bridge area already has a sign prohibiting left turns onto Trung Trac Street, forcing vehicles wishing to enter Phan Thiet Fishing Port to frequently pass through Nguyen Van Troi Street and Phan Chu Trinh Street. This large number of trucks, according to residents’ feedback, is the main cause of peeling and damage to the surface of Nguyen Van Troi Street, affecting traffic safety and urban aesthetics.
However, banning trucks on Nguyen Van Troi Street, especially the section from Tran Hung Dao Street, poses another problem. This is a crucial route for vehicles accessing Phan Thiet Fishing Port. If trucks are banned from the Tran Hung Dao direction, cargo and seafood transport activities at the fishing port could be significantly affected. To solve this problem, Duc Thang Ward has proposed an adjusted ban plan. Instead of banning trucks from Tran Hung Dao Street onto Nguyen Van Troi Street, the ward proposes installing truck ban signs in the direction of traffic flow from Ngu Ong Street onto Nguyen Van Troi Street. At the same time, it is proposed not to install ban signs at the Nguyen Van Troi and Tran Hung Dao intersection.
This solution is expected to minimize the negative impact on the operation of Phan Thiet Fishing Port while still solving the problem of heavy trucks causing damage to Nguyen Van Troi Street. However, the traffic diversion and the actual impact of this solution need to be carefully assessed to ensure its effectiveness and feasibility, solving the immediate traffic problem while ensuring the economic activities of the Phan Thiet Fishing Port area.
