Effective August 1st, a new regulation from the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee has officially adjusted the operating hours for freight vehicles and trucks within the city’s inner districts. This regulation directly impacts the movement of many truck types, especially trucks banned during certain hours of the day. This article from Xe Tải Mỹ Đình provides detailed and up-to-date information about this new regulation, helping drivers and transportation businesses understand and comply, avoiding unnecessary violations.
According to the new regulations, light trucks (with a load capacity under 2,500 kg) will have restricted access to the inner city of Ho Chi Minh City during peak hours, specifically:
- Morning: From 6 AM to 9 AM
- Afternoon: From 4 PM to 8 PM

For heavy trucks, the scope and duration of the time restrictions are even stricter. Trucks with a load capacity exceeding 2,500 kg will not be allowed to travel into the inner city for an extended period from 6 AM to 10 PM daily. This is aimed at minimizing traffic density and congestion during both daytime and late evening hours.
However, the regulation also introduces several corridor routes that allow heavy trucks to operate during restricted hours. These routes are mainly located in the suburban areas, facilitating truck movement through the city without affecting inner-city traffic. Specifically, the corridor routes include:
- North and West: National Highway 1 (section from Hanoi Highway to Nguyen Van Linh Street)
- East: Hanoi Highway (section from National Highway 1 to Cat Lai intersection), Mai Chi Tho Street (section from Dong Van Cong Street to Vo Chi Cong Street)
- South: Vo Chi Cong Street (from Dong Van Cong Street to Phu My Bridge), Phu My Bridge, elevated road (from Phu My Bridge to Area A South Saigon intersection), Nguyen Van Linh Street (section from Area A South Saigon intersection to National Highway 1)

The main reason behind the decision to restrict trucks banned during certain hours stems from the increasingly complex traffic situation in Ho Chi Minh City. The rapid increase in the number of trucks, coupled with unregulated operating hours, has contributed to worsening traffic congestion on many routes. Traffic segregation and limiting operating hours for trucks, especially light and heavy trucks, are considered urgent solutions to improve urban traffic conditions.
Previously, at a preliminary meeting on traffic safety, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee requested the Department of Transport to research and propose a plan to restrict light trucks during the day, shifting their operations mainly to nighttime on major traffic corridors. This new regulation is the result of the research and implementation of measures aimed at reducing congestion and ensuring traffic safety for the city.
