Truck Driver Avoids Girls: A Lesson in Road Safety

A serious traffic accident occurred on the morning of March 9th at the Tay Lan – National Highway 1A intersection in Binh Tan District, Ho Chi Minh City, when a car carrying nearly 30 people to a wedding crashed into 4 motorcycles and 1 bicycle that were stopped at a red light. The initial cause was determined to be the driver swerving to avoid two girls on a motorbike crossing the road.

The car driver’s attempt to avoid the two girls resulted in more serious consequences. At around 7 a.m., the car, driven by Mr. Nguyen Van An (43 years old), was carrying nearly 30 people to a wedding from Go Vap District to Ben Tre Province. When he reached the Tay Lan intersection, to avoid two girls suddenly riding a motorbike across the road, Mr. An swerved sharply. This action caused the car to lose control and crash straight into a series of motorcycles stopped at the red light ahead.

The chain collision injured 3 people, including an elderly man, who had to be hospitalized for emergency treatment. Two motorcycles were dragged under the car and severely damaged, while 2 other motorcycles and 1 bicycle were thrown outwards. Mr. Giang Quoc Binh, one of the victims, said: “I was thrown in front of the car, and the motorbike was dragged underneath. Luckily, I only suffered minor scratches.”

Driver An explained: “If I hadn’t swerved, the car would have crashed straight into them, and the two girls could have died.” However, the action of driving the truck to avoid the two girls in this situation caused a chain accident, affecting many others. This is a lesson for drivers about handling unexpected situations while participating in traffic. Maintaining composure, careful observation, and adherence to traffic laws are crucial to ensure the safety of oneself and those around you.

The accident caused a prolonged traffic jam on National Highway 1, heading from An Suong to An Lac. The wedding guests in the car panicked but called another vehicle to continue their journey. The traffic police of Binh Tan District were present in time to make a record of the incident, handle the matter, and regulate traffic. About an hour later, the scene was cleared, and traffic gradually returned to normal. The incident once again sounded an alarm about the state of traffic unsafety, especially the adherence to traffic laws when participating in traffic on busy roads. Driving a truck to avoid two girls, although stemming from good intentions, resulted in unfortunate consequences. This shows the importance of training safe driving skills and awareness of traffic law compliance for everyone.
