On October 14th, the Tien Giang Provincial Police Department of Traffic confirmed that a truck had fallen from a ferry into a branch of the Tien River in Cai Lay district, Tien Giang province, the previous day. The truck, loaded with scrap metal, was successfully salvaged and brought ashore after hours of rescue efforts.

The unusual accident occurred at approximately 8:30 AM on October 13th when Mr. Nguyen Phu Quy (27 years old, residing in Hiep Duc commune, Cai Lay district, Tien Giang) was operating the ferry with license plate TG-136.25 from the shore of Tan Phong commune to the shore of Hiep Duc, both belonging to Cai Lay district.
According to initial reports, when the ferry was about 30 meters from the shore, a truck with license plate 71C-111.01, driven by Cao Thanh Son (43 years old, residing in An Phu commune, Long Ho district, Vinh Long province), suddenly sped towards the bow of the ferry and fell into the river. At the time of the incident, the truck had driver Son and one other person. Both quickly escaped from the vehicle and swam safely to shore.

The truck involved in the accident was carrying approximately 1.5 tons of scrap iron. After falling into the river, the truck quickly sank. Authorities quickly arrived at the scene to deploy rescue operations and salvage the truck along with the scrap metal.
The salvage work faced many difficulties due to the truck being submerged in the river and its heavy weight combined with the scrap metal load. However, with the efforts of the rescue units, the scrap metal truck was safely brought ashore on the afternoon of October 14th. The incident caused no casualties, but drew significant attention in the community regarding waterway traffic safety and the process of transporting goods, especially scrap materials, by trucks via ferries.
