A horrific traffic accident in Gia Lai, where a truck collided head-on with a sleeper bus, claimed the lives of 13 people and injured dozens of other passengers. The cause of the accident quickly became the focus of investigation, especially the unusual journey of the truck before the disaster.
On the morning of May 7, 2017, on National Highway 14 through Chu Se town, Gia Lai, a horrific collision occurred between a fertilizer truck and a sleeper bus. This head-on bus crash caused particularly serious consequences, leaving 12 people dead at the scene and another dying in the hospital, bringing the total number of victims to a painful 13.
According to initial information, the truck with license plate 77C-139.37 was traveling at high speed and showed unusual signs before the accident. Notably, this vehicle passed through the Duc Long – Gia Lai toll station on National Highway 14 just minutes before the collision. This truck’s unusual journey was recorded when the truck did not slow down but rushed straight ahead, broke through the toll station barrier, and continued to move at a speed of 105km/h.
Gia Lai traffic police officers, during a patrol, detected the truck traveling at high speed at night and tried to stop it. However, because the truck was running too fast and on an unusual journey, the traffic police could not catch up to check and prevent the tragic accident in time. The tragic head-on bus crash caused heavy losses of life and property. At the scene, the sleeper bus was completely deformed, the front of the vehicle was smashed, and many fragments were scattered everywhere. Many passengers were thrown out of the vehicle, while others were trapped in the rubble, crying for help.
Immediately after the accident, authorities quickly launched an investigation into the cause. One of the factors that received special attention was the truck’s unusual journey and the driver’s condition. The results of the second blood sample test of the truck driver were negative for drugs.
