On January 9th, Nghe An police continued to expand the investigation into a large-scale drug trafficking case that has shocked public opinion, involving Mr. Mua Ba Vu, Chairman of the Na Ngoi Commune People’s Committee in Ky Son district. The case was uncovered when authorities moved to intercept a suspected pickup truck transporting illicit goods in Hung Chinh commune, Vinh city, on the same morning.
A video recorded by local residents shows police deploying an ambush and ordering a pickup truck, driven by Mr. Vu along with another man, to stop for inspection. However, the suspects resisted and intentionally accelerated to flee.
Faced with this dangerous action, police were forced to fire warning shots into the air while tightening the encirclement and successfully intercepting the vehicle. Upon searching the scene, authorities seized a large amount of evidence, including 35kg of synthetic drugs and 4 bricks of heroin, cleverly disguised in nylon bags and dried tea packages.
Police apprehend Mua Ba Vu with seized drugs, highlighting the scale of the drug trafficking operation
The case becomes even more serious as previously, in mid-December 2024, Mr. Mua Dua Thai, former Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of Na Ngoi commune, was also arrested in Vinh city for involvement in a transnational drug trafficking ring of over 28,000 synthetic drug tablets. This indicates that Na Ngoi commune, Ky Son district, is becoming a hotspot for drug crime, causing public concern and posing significant challenges for local management.
Nghe An police are continuing to expand the investigation, clarifying the involved individuals and the scale of this drug ring. This incident not only serves as a wake-up call regarding the increasingly complex drug crime situation but also reveals the degradation and corruption of a part of the official apparatus, who abuse their positions and powers to commit illegal acts.
Pickup trucks, known for their strength, versatility, and flexible transportation capabilities across various terrains, are once again being exploited for criminal purposes. Pickup truck prices in the Nghe An region and across the country are always a concern for many, especially those who need vehicles for work and family. However, this case reveals a regrettable dark side when this vehicle type is distorted, becoming a tool for illegal activities, negatively impacting society.
