According to Appendix XI issued with Circular 02/2023/TT-BGTVT amended by Appendix V issued with Circular 08/2023/TT-BGTVT, the pickup truck inspection cycle is regulated as follows:
- Pickup trucks manufactured up to 7 years:
- First time: 24 months.
- Subsequent times: 12 months.
- Pickup trucks manufactured over 7 years: 6 months.

How to Calculate the Production Time of Pickup Trucks
Circular 08/2023/TT-BGTVT stipulates that the production time of motor vehicles is calculated by year, similar to the calculation of the period of use.
For example:
- A car manufactured in 2020, until the end of December 31, 2022, is considered to have been manufactured for 2 years.
- From January 1, 2023, this car is considered to have been manufactured for more than 2 years (i.e., 3 years).
Correctly determining the production time of the car is very important to apply the correct pickup truck inspection cycle.
Principles for Determining the Motor Vehicle Inspection Cycle
Circular 08/2023/TT-BGTVT also stipulates the general principles when determining the pickup truck inspection cycle and other types of motor vehicles:
- First cycle: Applies to new vehicles, vehicles exempt from first inspection, or unused vehicles with a production year up to 3 years before the year of submitting the application.
- Periodic cycle: Applies to the remaining types of vehicles and vehicles registered for inspection in subsequent times.
- Vehicles with modifications or changes to the steering or braking system (except for the case of installing an additional auxiliary brake pedal) must be re-inspected.
- The 15-day inspection period is not counted as the first cycle.
- If the periodic cycle is shorter than the most recent inspection cycle, the inspection period will be granted equal to the inspection period of the nearest cycle, calculated from the previous inspection date.
