Western Region Power Transmission 1: 28 Years of Powering the Nation

Western Region Power Transmission 1, a unit under the National Power Transmission Corporation, has been a part of the 500kV North-South line 1 for the past 28 years. This journey is linked to important historical milestones of Vietnam’s electricity industry, making significant contributions to the country’s socio-economic development.

From the Early Difficult Days

The 500kV North-South line 1 was started in 1992 when the country still faced many difficulties. The project, with a total length of 1487 km, passing through 17 provinces and cities, crossing many rivers and mountains, is a testament to the will and determination of the entire Party and people. The completion of the line in just two years clearly demonstrates the creativity, selfless labor spirit, and high responsibility of the team of Vietnamese officials, engineers, and workers.

The successful energization and operation of the 500kV North-South line 1 in 1996 marked an important turning point, demonstrating the strategic vision of the Party and the State. This is a historic achievement, opening a new era for the strong development of the electricity industry.

Historical Significance of the 500kV Line

Before the 500kV line, Vietnam’s electricity industry was underdeveloped, and power outages occurred frequently. The 500kV line has basically solved the problem of power shortages, especially in the Central, Southern, and Central Highlands regions, meeting the needs of socio-economic development.

The linking of the three regional power systems into a unified whole has created conditions for the transmission of abundant electricity from the North to the South, contributing significantly to the country’s economic, political, and social development.

Western Region Power Transmission 1 is proud to be the unit that manages and operates an important part of the 500kV North-South line 1, along with the transmission grid system in 9 South Central – Coastal – Central Highlands provinces.
