In late March 2024, the Dong Nai Department of Natural Resources and Environment issued a warning about alarming dust pollution levels in key areas of the province, particularly on major traffic routes and intersections. Automatic monitoring at 16 traffic intersections, over 385 hours of measurement, revealed concerning results: 200 hours of average air quality, 43 hours of poor quality, and even 2 hours of very poor quality. Notably, this situation is significantly contributed by the operation of trucks, essential vehicles for goods transportation but also a considerable source of dust emissions.
Truck Dust Pollution: A Persistent Problem
Dust and smoke pollution from vehicles, especially trucks, is not a new issue. In rapidly urbanizing areas, bustling industrial zones, and places with high traffic density like Dong Nai, this situation is becoming increasingly serious. Truck dust not only directly affects air quality but also negatively impacts public health and the living environment.
To address the problem of truck dust, the Dong Nai Department of Natural Resources and Environment has proactively proposed drastic solutions. The department has recommended that the Provincial Police, Department of Transport, and People’s Committees of districts and cities strengthen coordination and implement synchronized measures for patrolling, controlling vehicle loads, and handling violations by trucks. The goal is to thoroughly prevent overloaded and oversized vehicles without proper covering, causing material spillage onto roads. This is one of the main causes of truck dust, damaging traffic infrastructure and seriously affecting people’s health.
Comprehensive Solutions to Reduce Truck Dust
Beyond controlling trucks on the roads, the Dong Nai Department of Natural Resources and Environment also pays special attention to reducing truck dust generated from other areas. The department has requested the People’s Committees of 11 districts and cities to direct functional units to strengthen the supervision of industrial clusters in their localities. The aim is to require manufacturing facilities to strictly implement dust reduction measures during operation and to enhance environmental sanitation and road cleaning around industrial zones.
Traffic regulation is also considered an important solution to reduce truck dust. The Department of Natural Resources and Environment proposes that localities study and adjust truck traffic flow during peak hours to avoid traffic congestion, which increases emissions and fine dust particles in the air.
Long Khanh Pioneers Handling Truck Violations
In Long Khanh city, the City People’s Committee has demonstrated a strong determination to control truck dust. The City People’s Committee has requested Traffic Inspection Team No. 4 to closely coordinate with the City Police to develop regular patrol plans, resolutely and strictly handle vehicles transporting oversized and overloaded construction materials, causing soil and rock spillage on key roads such as Duy Tan, Hoang Dieu, Nguyen Trai, Le A, National Highway 1 – Xuan Lap, Bau Sao – Xuan Lap, National Highway 56 – Doi Riu, Suoi Tre – Binh Loc…
These efforts not only contribute to protecting the infrastructure of road traffic but also significantly reduce truck dust pollution in Long Khanh city, bringing a cleaner living environment to residents.
Traffic Police Take Action
Traffic police forces throughout Dong Nai province are also actively involved, increasing inspections and handling trucks carrying construction materials on roads leading to key construction projects. Strictly handling cases of dump trucks operating during prohibited hours and causing soil and rock spillage on roads is part of a common effort to reduce truck dust, protect the environment, and public health.
With the synchronized involvement of all levels of government and functional forces, Dong Nai is gradually implementing effective solutions to control and reduce truck dust, towards the goal of improving air quality and protecting a sustainable living environment.
