The story of Wombat, a 4-month-old piglet, jumping from a truck on a Western Australia highway en route to a slaughterhouse, has captivated the internet. This daring act is believed to stem from a strong survival instinct when Wombat sensed impending danger.
Wombat’s Miraculous Journey to Freedom
Packed tightly with other pigs on a speeding truck, Wombat defied all odds to find a way out. The piglet squeezed through the bars and jumped from the vehicle, tumbling onto the road.

Despite surviving, Wombat suffered a broken nose, a fractured eye socket, and severe internal bleeding. No one was sure if the piglet would make it, but Wombat persevered and gradually recovered after two months.
Not only did Wombat escape death, but he also found a home at Greener Pastures Sanctuary. From a 3kg piglet, Wombat grew to 40kg upon arrival at the sanctuary.

Despite the lasting effects of the fall, including a crooked snout and jaw, and a scar on his chin, Wombat enjoys his new life to the fullest. The piglet loves wallowing in the mud and playing with his best friend, Freckle.
According to Rachael Parker, the sanctuary’s founder, Wombat is the most affectionate and gentle piglet you could ever meet. Wombat loves belly rubs and will run up to anyone entering his enclosure. He often lies down for children to lean on and hug him. “My favorite thing about him is his crooked snout and the way he sticks his tongue out when he sleeps,” Parker shared.
