Deadly Truck Crash in Gia Lai: Wife’s Apology

A devastating traffic accident involving a truck in Gia Lai has claimed the lives of 13 people and injured dozens more, sending shockwaves through the public. On the morning of May 8th, Dr. Dinh Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Head of the Intensive Care Unit – Anti-Poison Department at Gia Lai General Hospital, reported that the health condition of driver Vo Van Quy (27 years old, from Binh Dinh province), the person driving the truck that caused the horrific accident, remains critical.

According to Dr. Huong, driver Quy was admitted to the hospital in an extremely critical state with severe traumatic brain injury, subdural hematoma, multiple injuries throughout his body, undetectable blood pressure, and deep coma. The hospital intubated him and has been working to maintain his blood pressure since last night, but the prognosis is still very poor.

In the somber atmosphere enveloping the hospital, Ms. Quach Thi Phu, driver Quy’s wife, has been present to care for her husband since the afternoon of May 7th. Choking back tears, Ms. Phu shared that on May 6th, Mr. Quy told his family that he would be transporting goods to Gia Lai for his employer. On the morning of May 7th, she was stunned to receive the terrible news about the horrific accident caused by her husband. Immediately, she rushed to Gia Lai General Hospital to care for her husband and face the heartbreaking reality. According to Ms. Phu, her husband has over 3 years of experience driving trucks. He used to work in Saigon, but because he felt sorry for his wife and children’s hardship at home, Mr. Quy decided to return to his hometown and had just started working transporting fertilizer for about 2 months.

“Normally, he only smokes cigarettes or eats oranges and tangerines to stay awake when driving long distances and never uses stimulants,” Ms. Phu affirmed, refuting suspicions about her husband using prohibited substances.

The young wife also shared that before the tragic truck accident occurred, Mr. Quy had taken the whole family out for meals and fun, creating beautiful memories for his wife and children.

In her pain and shock, Ms. Phu, on behalf of her husband, offered her deepest apologies to the families of the deceased victims and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured passengers.

“I know the mistake my husband made is too great, nothing can compensate for it. Currently, I don’t know what to do other than hope that the families of the deceased victims will forgive my husband. I beg the doctors to try their best to save the injured and help them recover quickly. As for my husband, I don’t dare to think about whether he will live or die. I just hope he is still alive so he can see his two young children,” Ms. Phu sobbed in tears.

Regarding the truck accident that killed 13 people and injured 32 others, Mr. Mai Xuan Hai, Director of the Gia Lai Department of Health, said that on the same morning, 12 bodies of victims had been identified and relatives had taken them home for funeral arrangements. The remaining body was facially disfigured, so it has not yet been identified.

Mr. Hai also added that among the 32 injured, driver Vo Van Quy was the most severely injured case. To date, 5 lightly injured victims have been discharged from the hospital.
