On October 19, 2014, two serious traffic accidents involving Howo trucks occurred in Dien Chau district, Nghe An province, resulting in 5 casualties. These tragic events have once again raised serious concerns about road safety, particularly the potential hazards posed by heavy trucks.
Scene of a serious traffic accident where three family members tragically died
The first accident happened around 3:00 PM on National Highway 1A, in front of the Rong Thong Hotel, Dien An commune. Ha Van Thuong (born 1975, residing in Tan Lap 2 hamlet, Nghi Phong, Nghi Loc) was driving a motorcycle with license plate 37K1-535.53, carrying his wife, Ha Thi Nhi, when they collided with a Howo truck with license plate 37C-122.08, driven by Tran Duc Son (born 1983, from Dong Hop commune, Quy Hop). The strong impact caused the motorcycle to be dragged under the truck. Thuong suffered a broken leg and head injuries, while Nhi was seriously injured and in critical condition.
Just 30 minutes later, at Dien Thuy bridge, another devastating accident occurred, claiming the lives of three members of a family. A Howo truck with license plate 37C-124.89, belonging to Hoang Phuong Thao Company (driver’s identity unknown), collided with a motorcycle driven by Cao Ba Trang (born 1984, residing in hamlet 4, Dien Thanh commune), carrying his wife, Cao Thi Man (born 1987), and their son, Cao Ba Hieu (born 2012). As a result, Trang and Hieu died at the scene, and Man died on the way to the hospital. The motorcycle was completely wrecked and trapped under the truck.
These two consecutive Howo truck accidents caused a traffic jam stretching approximately 2 km on National Highway 1A. By 5:30 PM, traffic had returned to normal. Authorities are investigating the cause of the incidents.
These tragic accidents once again underscore the importance of adhering to traffic laws, especially for drivers of heavy trucks. Strengthening inspections and monitoring of transportation activities, and raising awareness of responsibility among road users are necessary to prevent similar unfortunate accidents from happening. The sudden departure of five people on the same day leaves an irreparable pain for their families and loved ones.
